מסמך זה, שהחל בשנת 2009, הינו תוצאה של מחקר ועבודה מעמיקה שבוצעו על ידי אנשים שונים ואשר כללו:

• ביקורים תכופים בבית העלמין היהודי באסמרה שאורגנו על ידי שמואל (סמי) מנחם כהן על מנת לאסוף נתונים הכרחיים לרישום המפה הסכמטית, לאתר את כל הקברים בעלי המצבות וכל התלוליות חסרות השם, על מנת להשוות מאוחר יותר לנתונים מתוך ספר המרשם של הנפטרים הקבורים בבית העלמין היהודי של עיריית אסמרה;
• האוסף השלם של התיעוד המצולם של בית הכנסת ובית העלמין נערך על ידי פרנקו דל אורו;
• טיוטת המפה הסכמטית ועיבוד הנתונים נערכו על ידי מנצור כהן והינם תוצר של השוואה פרטנית בין התיעוד המצולם של העובדות הנוכחיות בבית העלמין, לבין הנתונים בספר המרשם של עיריית אסמרה לגבי הנפטרים הקבורים בבית העלמין היהודי וכמו-כן מסמכים אחרים של הקהילה.

שמואל (סמי) כהן, מנצור כהן וגב' דונטלה סימאונה כתבו וערכו את הגרסה האיטלקית. משה כהן ועדי כהן כתבו את הגרסה העברית. מנצור כהן כתב את הגרסה האנגלית. עריכת השער ועימוד נעשו על ידי מנצור כהן וגב' דונטלה סימאונה.

מאמצים רבים הושקעו באיסוף כל המידע הקשור לאישים, מאורעות ועובדות על הקהילה היהודית ובית העלמיןנ באסמרה, המוזכרים במסמך זה. אנו מבקשים סליחה אם היו אישים, מאורעות ועובדות שנשמטו ושאינם מוזכרים עקב מידע חסר, או אם פגענו שלא במתכוון בזכרם של הנפטרים, או ברגשותיהם של המשפחות.

הקורא עלול לקבל רושם של חוסר שלמות ואי אחידות של התוכן, על ידי קריאה של פרקים מסוימים שנכתבו בפירוט, לעומת פרקים אחרים המופיעים בתימצות. הסיבה לכך הינה, מחד גיסא, קיים הצורך להביא מידע שניתן לגבות במסמכים ובעדויות מיהימנות ומאידך גיסא, המידע הקשור לתקופות שונות לא תמיד נמצא ברמת פירוט מספקת.

Il presente lavoro, iniziato nel 2009, è il risultato della dedizione di diverse persone. Esso ha richiesto:

• ripesuti sopralluoghi al Cimitero ebraico di Asnara, disposti da Samuel Cohen (Sami) al fine di raccogliere i dati necessari alla stesura della mappa schematica, il rilevamento di tutte le tombe con lapide e di tutti i tumuli senza nome, per un successivo confronto con i dati risultanti dal Registro dei defunti sepolti nel Cimitero Israelita del Municipio di Asmara;
• la raccolta della documentazione fotografica completa, a cura di Franco Dell'Oro;
• la stesura della mappa schematica e la elaborazione dei dati, a cura di Mansoor Cohen. E stato effettuato un puntuale confronto tra la cocumentazione fotografica e i dati del Registro dei defunti sepolti nel Cimitero Israelita, esaminando anche le scritture della Comunità.

This study, started in the year 2009, is the result of the dedication of several individuals. It required:

• Repeated surveys of the Jewish cemetery in Asmara, arranged by Samuel Cohen (Sami) in order to collect the necessary data needed to draw up the schematic map. The detection of all the graves with tombstone and all the nameless mounds, were needed for a subsequent comparison with the data obtained from the Register of the deceased buried in the Jewish Cemetery of the Municipality of Asmara;
• The collection of the complete photographic documentation is by Franco Dell'Oro;
• Mansoor Cohen edited the drafting of the schematic map and the data processing. It was carried out a detailed comparison between the photographic documentation and the data of the Register of the deceased buried in the Jewish Cemetery, examining also the documents of the Community.

Samuel Cohen, Mansoor Cohen and Donatella Simeone edited the Italian text.
