Tennant, Stephen

'Leaves From a Missionary's Notebook' was first published in 1929 when its author was 23 years old. Since then it has become a rare edition passing hands in the saleroom for exaggerated prices. Now republished to celebrate the author's 80th birthday, this unique volume remains in many ways ahead of its time. In a series of vivid and dramatic images it tells the tale of the Rev. Felix Littlejohn and his quest to convert the heathen to the light. In the course of his bizarre travels, the worthy Felix encounters a wide variety of human depravity, before continuing his mission into the depths of a terrifying jungle.

It is the book of an author who is forever amused by vice in the languorous tropics, (where 'Any time is kissing time'), crocodile worship, the mild fevers of the Cannibal Solomon Isles and tracts urging 'God tells us to get closer'.

In a series of vivid and dramatic images it tells the tale of the Rev. Felix Littlejohn and his quest to convert the so-called heathen to the light.
